New Islington Millennium Village

Project: New Islington Millennium Village
Client: Urban Splash / Manchester City Council / English Partnerships
Role: Civil and Infrastructure Engineer
Architect: Alsop Architects

This project to develop a 13 hectare site in East Manchester involves demolition of the existing 1970s cul-de-sac style residential estate and construction of entirely new infrastructure. Sustainability issues are an important feature of the project, providing central heat and power and low energy usage.

We are also leading on the implementation of the Public Realm Works, which include new roads, bridges, public spaces, canals and canal basins. The site’s 200-year industrial heritage has left a range of ground contaminants which will be treated, remediated and re-used as re-engineered fill to adjust the existing topography to new formation levels.
